Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
